Our Story.

After starting my own family, and realising the hardship and costs family life entails, especially during a global pandemic, I wanted to be able to help those around me who may have been struggling.

I started Little Helping Hands Baby Bank in February 2021 and since then it has grown to be an integral resource in our community. We have a fantastic team of volunteers who help run the Baby Bank, and we have helped over 200 families with this number continuing to grow.

Little Helping Hands is not only a great resource for our community in terms of support, we are also an environmentally friendly project. 95% of what we use are donated items, meaning we are reducing waste within our community by recycling the  items that would be otherwise thrown away.

What We Do and Who We Help

We receive donations of pre-loved and new baby and young children items such as clothing, toiletries and nursery equipment. These items are then distributed to families within Tadcaster and the surrounding areas, who have been identified as needing support by health and social professionals.

TESTIMONIALS

Without your support we wouldn’t be able to do the work we do. So here are a few words from the people you have helped over the past year, to show how your donations have supported so many families.

Little helping hands have been a huge help to my family since opening! They have been able to help provide clothing, nappies and other essentials for my children when funds was unfortunately stretched. This eases the stress on a parent as at least the children have all they need. Last Christmas little helping hands also gifted a lovely gift for my children that made them very happy. Very thankful for all they do to help in York.

Referral Family in York

I came across little helping hands by chance on Facebook and at the time I was feeling pretty low about my circumstances. Due to a few reasons starting with lock down, I found myself pregnant, homeless and unable to spend money on a lot of things we wanted. Initially I felt wrong going as my partner did work so I knew there were people in worse circumstances but I was so low that we couldn’t buy clothes that I went along. I shouldn’t have worried, the first time I went the ladies who run the charity were so warm and welcoming and assured us that everyone in need was welcome…I can’t thank the charity enough, not just for the help we get but for the warm welcome we receive, it’s hard and embarrassing to admit we need help and when we go, they make it so easy, it’s actually fun and something I now look forward to going too when I can make it.
